What actually changes car service prices
- Engine size and oil specification. A 1.0-litre petrol takes less oil than a 3.0-litre diesel, and long-life specifications cost more per litre.
- Filters. Some cars use combined or awkwardly-sited filters that take longer to change.
- Service level. The jump from interim to full to major is extra parts and extra inspection time, not a different labour rate.
- Battery type. AGM and EFB batteries for stop-start cars cost more than standard lead-acid, and often need coding to the vehicle.
