How often should I service my car?
A full service once every 12 months or 12,000 miles, an interim service every 6 months or 6,000 miles if you are a higher-mileage driver, and a major service every 24 months or 24,000 miles. Your manufacturer handbook always takes priority over any general rule.
Time matters as much as mileage. Engine oil degrades and absorbs moisture even when a car barely moves, which is why the 12-month rule applies to low-mileage cars too. Short-journey city driving is harder on oil than motorway miles, because the engine never fully warms up and condensation never burns off.
